Retail Employees Credit Union hosted a series of on-site workshops at various locations to educate their members on the complexities of financing and maintaining their first home. The panel of speakers included experts in the fields of underwriting, home inspection, appraisal, title, real estate law, and insurance. Independent Mortgage specialist, Joe Menna, walked members through the underwriting process placing special emphasis on affordability and qualification. Attendance was higher than expected with many members stating that they were hoping to benefit from low loan rates and a sluggish real estate market. RECU members left the one hour seminar with a better understanding of the home ownership process from both a financial and legal viewpoint. RECU Marketing Coordinator, Vivian English, was on hand to welcome members and facilitate the question and answer segment. "Our members had lots of questions for the panel speakers", said English, "they were particularly interested in the appraisal process". For those members who were unable to attend, RECU provided a complimentary First Time Home Buyers DVD.
