Branch Capture
Branch capture allows your credit union to substitute paper checks with an electronic equivalent during the check clearing process. Cost savings are possible since there is a reduction in staff time with regards to the handling, manual processing and storage of paper checks, as well as a reduction in your credit union’s courier costs. With branch capture the collection and return of checks occurs much faster. This is especially helpful in mitigating check fraud. There is also an opportunity to reduce check holds. Essentially, branch capture gives your credit union a framework for making the collection of checks more efficient. And, the expedited funds availability is something that your members are sure to appreciate.
Check Collection
Checks taken in by credit unions over the counter, by mail, through night deposit boxes and from ATMs can be sent to CSI for collection. Checks deposited with CSI may be dollar-amount encoded by the credit union or sent unencoded. CSI encodes the checks if necessary, captures images of the share drafts, and prepares outgoing cash letters for deposit with the Federal Reserve Bank. Credit unions can view images of their deposited items over the Internet. CSI offers possible lower processing fees compared to banks, possible faster credit availability, lower balance requirements, faster receipt of return items, and handling of adjustments between the Federal Reserve and other banks for the credit union.
Remittance Processing
Credit card and loan payments may be collected through CSI's remittance processing service. The payments are sent to a P.O. Box in Atlanta. CSI picks up the payments daily. Check payments are accompanied by remittance advices. CSI encodes the checks and advices. The information on the advices (account number and dollar amount) is captured on high speed reader sorters and a file is created for transmission to the credit union. The checks are prepared for deposit at the Federal Reserve and credit is passed to the credit union. The advantages of remittance processing are reduced labor at the credit union and improved availability on the check payments.
Share Draft Processing
In processing share drafts, CSI intercepts credit unions' member share drafts from the Federal Reserve Bank and other financial institutions. The information from the drafts is captured and transmitted to the payer credit union or its service bureau for posting to members' accounts. CSI offers competitive pricing, timely transmission of files, timely handling of adjustment requests, images of paid drafts over the Internet for credit union staff and members, return of expense checks at no extra cost, and return of specific member share drafts sorted in account number order at a nominal extra cost. Credit unions can also receive images of their paid drafts on CD CROM for archival and members can receive images of all of their paid share drafts for a year.
