Hike the Hill

In continued efforts to increase the visibility of Georgia credit unions among our lawmakers, the Georgia Credit Union League (GCUL) schedules a Hike the Hill grassroots lobbying trip. Hike the Hill is a coordinated effort to ensure that elected officials and their staff see and hear from credit union officials.

The goal of Hike the Hill is to establish and maintain meaningful relationships with our elected officials and their staff. By taking the time to make this quick lobbying trip to Washington, D.C. or Atlanta to meet with the Georgia elected leadership on issues affecting credit unions, credit union loyalists are helping to make a difference in protecting the credit union movement against legislative attacks. When credit union officials participate in Hike the Hill, they demonstrate to lawmakers and their staff the credit union commitment to improving the lives of working Americans through grassroots political action.

In D.C., some activities during Hike the Hill might include a visit to CU House and meetings with NCUA board members and staff, as well as meetings with other key regulatory officials. As always, the event will include a legislative briefing at CUNA’s D.C. office, an evening reception, and most importantly, Capitol Hill visits with Georgia’s Congressional delegation.

State Hike the Hill visits will consist of a tour of the state capitol, visits with elected leadership, attending committee meetings if scheduled during the visit, and lunch.

The date for the 2010 D.C. GCUL Hike the Hill event is tentatively set for Sept. 21-22, 2010. There is no registration fee for this coordinated grassroots effort.
